Cloth Diapering Week 19

This cloth diapering journey has been an interesting one. I'm fighting all sorts of battles due to it. I have an inner urge to go buy more diapers which totally defeats the purpose of saving money. I read all about moms with cloth addictions, and while that may be hard to believe for some, I think it can be a complete truth!!!

My stash is still pretty much the same but I have added two more diapers. One was made by a WAHM (work at home mom- for those of you still learning the lingo like me.)

Another was off the Zulily website.

My preferences have changed in the last few weeks. I still have some diapers I love more than others from my same stash but it seems some of them are doing better in the long run than they did at the beginning.

For instance, I absolutely despised reaching for my Happy Heineys. I seemed to end up with leaks every time and I couldn't figure out why. Now I think I have the hang of that diaper. I've been using this diaper as a cover now, I skip the microfiber inserts when I can and I have successful days! :) Yay me! The reason I use it as a cover is simple, I loooooooooove using my prefolds. They seem to be the better choice for absorbency around here and since they are just a square piece of fabric, I simply fold it in a tri-fold method and lay it on the diaper. It can go directly on my baby's skin and I don't get stains on my diapers themselves. That last perk could be useful if I ever want to sell my diapers.

I now know why people kept saying buy different brands, try different diapers, etc etc... As baby grows, what worked one day may not work the next day. Baby will pee more at certain times of the day than others and it would be helpful to have a diaper that works miracles if you have a heavy wetter like I do. I'm glad I purchased my stash on ebay and paid less than I would have if I had done what I planned originally (buy a whole new stash of BG.) I got to try different diapers, and I didn't pay full price. My diapers were in excellent condition by the way! I can't complain at all. Now I just need to fight this inner addict building inside. I see so many cute diapers, great reviews on certain other diapers, and new patterns which get me all excited to save up some $ to buy more. I keep trying to convince myself that it's just not necessary and it's worked so far... let's see how long I can keep my inner shop-a-holic at bay. Frugality is tough... who knew?

So here's the run down:

  • Fuzzibunz = LOVE! ~Trim, and contains everything... as long as I'm not using microfiber
  • Flip = LOVE! ~ paired with my prefolds, it's a wonderful diaper
  • Happy Heineys = Like :) ~again, with my prefolds
  • Thirsties cover = LOVE! I pair this one with my prefolds and love the leg gussets!
  • BumGenius = I have the old 3.0 AIO and I'm not loving these... I hate microfiber :( but the fit is great!
  • Oh Katy = Paired w a prefold or any natural fiber insert, great!
  • Best Bottoms = I love the hemp insert and the cover always holds everything in... I'm not a fan of the microfiber inserts. Its a great system though! I am not a fan of the aplix either... but snaps are wonderful :)
