Flats Challenge Day 2

It's day two of the Flats Challenge hosted by Dirty Diaper Laundry and I can say I survived one day! Woo hoo!

How does one prepare for such a challenge? Well, I didn't really... Since Ben is almost one, I did most of my fluff shopping over a year ago. Amongst that fluff, I ordered one dozen flats and several covers (and prefolds, and aio's, ai2's, pockets, etc. etc. ~~ you get the picture.) I think I ordered the flats in hopes to take the challenge last year but my guy was not too keen on arriving when the doctor requested haha, go figure!

Well my flats have been used as part of our regular rotation. I usually pad fold these and stuff my pockets or use a cover. They dry super quick in my dryer so in the event that I didn't wash diapers on time, I can always count on my trusty flats.

For this year's Flats Challenge, I did nothing... I simply separated all my flats from all my diapers and pulled out my 5 covers (Best Bottoms, Grovia, Thirsties, and Flip.) I'm working with 6 flats (purchased from Abby's Lane due to their awesome free shipping) and 6 receiving blankets which were baby shower gifts.

I think we are doing really well so far! I'm washing as I go. Texas has nice heat, sunshine, and wind to dry my flats in no time... So this experience is pretty easy so far (of course, that just means because I said easy, life will throw me a curve ball right?)

Overall, I can say that cloth diapering would be öber cheap for us if I had stuck to a strict budget (I didn't. lol) Our pack of flats was about $21.99... Our covers varied in price from $8-15ish dollars... A couple of them used, some new. So we I want to say we were anywhere around $75 with the items I'm using for this challenge. That's not bad considering how much I would be spending on disposables for this chubby little guy.

Maybe I should consider de-stashing and going old school on this cloth diapering adventure... I kind of like the simplicity of this system.
