Sick and Pregnant

So this week has been exciting with my new nephew and sister in town... but along with all the excitement also came an unwanted guest. I came down with an "itchy" throat on Tuesday and thought very little of it hoping it was simply allergies due to the crazy weather we've been experiencing in South Texas. Well Wednesday morning was a bust. I woke up with an extreme sore throat, the sniffles, and body aches. Great! 39 weeks pregnant and sick... that's how the cookie crumbles right?

Well I jumped on this sore throat with home remedies. My Tia back home in Mexico swears by sauteed tomatoes. I don't know what makes them different from raw tomatoes but I wasn't going to question it at this time. So mom reminded me of how I needed to cook these and I did. (I cut them into quarters and sauteed them with a touch of vegan butter substitute.) I ate them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I did feel the improvement but I didn't think this was enough.

I loaded up on orange juice for an extra kick of vitamin C and I drank hot tea (green since it's all I had) to soothe the crazy feeling in my throat. I must have gone through a whole box of Kleenex by the time I had to pick up the kids from school so I decided to take a nice hot shower to finish clearing out the sinuses. I got the kids some fast food since I didn't feel I could cook them a meal and I came home to some more tomatoes and some sleep.

Yesterday I swore the pain was better but now my ear was achy and I got scared that maybe I wasn't dealing with a common cold but an infection of some sort instead. I almost reached out to the local docs when I realized that sticking to my home remedies was in fact, helping. My ear started to feel a little better and I had the energy to go pick up some more tomatoes and some tea to soothe my throat. I picked up the Yogi Honey Lemon Throat Comfort and it really has made a difference.

I pray this is the end of the road for this annoying sore throat and that I'm healthy when it comes time to going into labor! Now I just need to ensure that the rest of the family stays healthy before this baby comes!

So now aside from the illness I'm trying to kick, I am feeling better and I'm feeling more contractions. I'm sure active labor is far from starting since this kiddo seems to be nice and comfortable, but at least my uterus is working towards getting started.

I hope to meet the new little man in my life soon and I pray that everything goes smoothly. I need to work on some final touches for my birth plan but I'm so close to the finish line that I couldn't care less if things don't go perfectly... it's the imperfections in life that make all these times memorable. :)
