Yesterday I did a little browsing on Craigslist. Usually there isn't anything that catches my eye but I just happened to find a few Best Bottom covers on sale for 20 dollars. I couldn't help but jump at the offer and I purchased them. The previous owner included a couple other diapers they will no longer use along with the Best Bottom inserts. Well, I ended up with about 6 inserts, 4 Best Bottom covers, 1 Bum Genius AIO and two other diapers I'm not very familiar with. I though, "what the heck, I'll strip them and wash them really well before using them and they should be fine right?"
I started that stripping process today by taking a good ol' bucket, boiling water, and some RNGreen detergent. WELL! Dayuuuuum! I'm in for a load of fun. These diapers must have been washed in regular detergent because they are sooooooooooooooooooooooooo stinky! I initially thought they smelled just a tad off. I thought it was due to the detergent or maybe just a bit smelly from where the original owner stored them. Nope, after one soak. the smell intensified, I saw extremely dingy water and lots of suds (something you shouldn't see in your diaper wash.)
I'm on soak #2 and I am still seeing suds and swamp water. Yuuuk! I am a little hesitant to use them but honestly, I don't think these diapers are beyond repair... I think I can still save them. My husband said today, "those diapers need a LOT of TLC." He's right, and I'll try my best. With some very careful stripping, I think I can get these diapers to look almost new again... I hope! At least the Best Bottom covers will be fully salvageable and I won't loose out on my $20 purchase. Wish me luck! I'll post an update once I get these to look new... or sort of new... hehe.
