Flats Challenge Day 4: Thoughts on hand washing; How am I doing?

Day 4 of the 2013 Flats Challenge (hosted by Dirty Diaper Laundry) is upon us! It's been quite the week let me tell ya!

I've had poo explosions, super soaked diapers, family drama, and little sleep... Despite the challenges, I am holding up pretty well! I have to admit though, this isn't my first hand washing rodeo. As a kid, I found myself hand washing a lot. Growing up in my large low income family, laundromats were a luxury we didn't always have. I really admire my mother for all the work she did on a daily basis with all 7 of us. Since I have prior experience with hand washing, rinsing, and wringing... I almost feel  like I'm cheating  ;)

It hasn't been "easy" but I have enjoyed the change in pace. I take my washer and dryer for granted at times. I can't imagine doing the laundry around here without those two prized possessions. Keeping up with 4 kids (5 if you count the husband), a dog, and the occasional momma cloth... my hands would be destroyed.

Would I do this just for kicks year around? Probably not. I am glad I took on the challenge though! Living near the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, one should be prepared for the upcoming hurricane season. You never know when disasters will happen. I hope to finish this challenge with a little more appreciation for all the wonderful mommas around the world who find themselves hand washing due to necessity... I admire their perseverance in meeting their children's needs every single day.
